The first Rheingau Wine Festival took place in the Freßgass´ in 1978. Establishing the festival in Frankfurt´s upmarket shopping area was a deliberate move, as the colloquial name "Freßgass´" alone illustrates the street´s tradition of being a place of Lucullan delights. The best place, therefore, for a festival presenting Rheingau wines and sparking wines!
The idea behind the Rheingau Wine Festival is to bring togehter vintners with consumers and end users so that they meet face to face. The festival limits itself to the Rheingau cultivation region as the Rheingau is the city´s colosest holiday and recreation area, and Frankfurt´s Lohrberg is also located at the extreme corner of the Rheingau region.
Communication is the goal of the fesitval and a vital part of the event is therefore the consultations between the guests and the vintners. The guests will also talk to each other and the wine festival has established itself as a key venue for discussing wine.
This year the vintners from the Rheingau region will be presenting their more than 600 wines and sparkling wines for the 30th time. The Rheinau Wine Festival is seen as one of Frankfurt´s traditional festivals and around 400.000 visitors are expected each year in the exclusive Edelmeile area. Bucking the trend of recent developments in the festival market, the 30th Rheingau Wine Festival is remaining true to its tradition and providing ne entrertainment or programme. The location itself is the stage, the vintners and guests are the actors, and communication is both the festival´s all-embracing programme and its unique feature.
