Dear Sir or Madam,

This year, Frankfurt once again offers locals as well as visitors a superb range of special events. The International German Gymnastics Festival, which expects to draw over 100,000 participants and spectators to the Main metropolis, is just one example of the many highlights on show in Frankfurt in 2009.
During the year, Frankfurt will also be taking the time to honour one of its favourite sons on the occasion of his 200th birthday, Heinrich Hoffmann. Whatever your interest, a colourful variety of events, exhibitions and new urban developments promises to make 2009 an exciting year from every point of view.

We look forward to seeing you here.
Sincerely yours,

Special Events

"Deep Sea", a special exhibition on show at the Senckenberg Museum, offers unique insights into a mysterious underwater world. Visitors to Germany's largest natural history museum will come face to face with luminescent creatures with enormous eyes and razor-sharp teeth, gigantic carnivorous jellyfish, the elusive giant squid and its archenemy, the massive sperm whale - the behemoth of the deep blue sea. A virtual underwater tour in an 11-metre-long submarine promises to be the highlight of the exhibition. "Deep Sea" presents a fascinating look at age-old maritime mysteries, the marvels of modern-day deep-sea exploration and everything in between.

SCHIRN Kunsthalle Frankfurt will be presenting an interdisciplinary exhibition entitled "Darwin. Art and the Search for Origins." to mark the 200th birthday of the renowned explorer and scientist, Charles Darwin. This highly publicised exhibition will take a closer look at the effects Darwin's groundbreaking theory of evolution had on artists, writers, natural scientists and the general public, focusing on some 150 paintings, sketches and lithographs of diverse artistic styles.

On the sports front, Frankfurt am Main will once again be playing host to the International German Gymnastics Festival. Very few people are aware of the fact that the Main metropolis has quite a tradition as a host of gymnastics festivals, with the German Gymnastics Festival having been held here in 1880, 1908, 1948 and 1983. Kicking off with a spectacular opening ceremony, this massive sporting event features a colourful mixture of spectator and participatory sport as well as a superb fringe programme for both young and old.
