Special Events

The 30th of May marks the day: The International German Gymnastics Festival 2009 arrives in Frankfurt am Main. The opening ceremony promises much fanfare and artistic flair. The River Main will be turned into a natural work of art, a gigantic canvas of water. Jet-ski and paragliding demonstrations featuring laser and pyrotechnics shows will accompany the artistic performances upon the Main. Specially choreographed water elements will add a three-dimensional touch to the fluid projection area. Combined with towering sheets of flame, this unique art installation is sure to become a truly unforgettable experience that you won’t ant to miss!

During the event, the “Riverside Festival Mile” will be serving as meeting point for gymnasts, fans and Frankfurt locals before, during and after the competitions. There will be music and live performances, fun and games for the entire family as well as countless stands and summer gardens offering regional as well as international culinary specialities. A total of four stages, including the floating hr3 river stage, will be presenting a varied programme of contemporary live acts, groovy disco parties, chill-out sounds and spectacular gymnastics demonstrations.

Frankfurt’s Main Festival, meanwhile, looks back on nearly 700 years of history and tradition. First held in 1340, this riverside spectacle is held on the northern banks of the River Main as well as on the Römerberg, Frankfurt’s old town centre. The time-honoured folk fair has retained several mediaeval traditions over the centuries, such as the sea-jousting tournament, and is very popular amongst families thanks to its wide range of entertainment offers.
