Since its founding in 1829, the institution has pursued the mandate of facilitating the production and mediation of contemporary art by supporting emerging lines of artistic inquiry and innovative creative models. Located in the Steineres Haus on the Römerberg—a historic building in the old city center—the Frankfurter Kunstverein has exhibition space of approximately 800 sq m at its disposal for the presentation of solo and group exhibitions by international artists that address currently relevant topics. The accompanying program of artists’ talks, guided tours, lectures, film screenings, and symposia make the field of contemporary art accessible to a wide public and inspire critical dialog.
