Facts and
information

Frankfurt's smallest district with its idyllic location on the River Main is once again complete. After a long period of construction between the Römer and the cathedral, the once-in-a-century Old Town reconstruction project was completed in 2018

Frankfurt's Old Town is a centre of attraction for everyone: residents, citizens and guests from all over the world meet here for a coffee, visit the numerous museums and individual shops and enjoy the Old Town flair in the heart of the Main metropolis.

The successful mix is a reminder of Frankfurt's eventful history as a European metropolis. In the Archaeological Garden, young and old alike can marvel at the traces of the Roman settlement and the Carolingian imperial palace, explained in an exciting video animation - or follow the kings and emperors on their way to coronation via the Coronation Path.

  • Around 200 people live in the 35 houses in Frankfurt's "new" old town, 15 of which are reconstructions and 20 new buildings

  • Numerous shops, cafés, museums and squares invite you to stay a while

  • The Stadthaus, the central conference centre, is located directly in the district, which is easily accessible by underground, and the tram stops right outside the Old Town

  • You can drive directly to the DomRömer multi-storey car park under the old town by car

Things to Do / Things to See

in the New Old Town

In Frankfurt's newly remodelled old town, a picture of fresh buildings and loving recreations of times gone by unfolds today. In the Struwwelpeter Museum, hidden in the alley Hinter dem Lämmchen, the memory of Heinrich Hoffmann, the Frankfurt physician who created a piece of world literature with his Struwwelpeter in 1844, lives on. Not far away, the Weißer Bock honours Friedrich Stoltze, an advocate of democracy whose dialect poems still express his love for Frankfurt today.
