Rheingauer Weinmarkt

History of the Rheingau Wine Festival

The first Rheingau Wine Festival took place at the Freßgass' in 1978. Establishing the festival in Frankfurt's upmarket shopping area was a deliberate move, as the colloquial name of "Freßgass'" illustrates the street's tradition of being a place of Lucullan delights. The best place, therefore, for a festival presenting Rheingau red, white and sparkling wines!

The idea behind the Rheingau Wine Festival is to bring winemakers and wine-lovers together to share in the vinicultural delights and discuss their favourite topic. The festival is limited to wines from the Rheingau wine cultivation area, as the Rheingau is Frankfurt's closest holiday destination and recreational area, with Frankfurt´s Lohrberg also being considered part of the Rheingau, located at the extreme corner of the famous wine-growing region.
Communication is the primary objective of the Rheingau Wine Festival, making the discussions festival guests and vintners one of the most important aspects of the event. Visitors and wine aficionados of course also mingle with one another, discussing the qualities of wines of all varieties while making new friends and gaining new insights. Thus, the Rheingau Wine Festival has established itself as a key venue for the discussion and promotion of Rheingau wines.
