The Frankfurt Christmas Market 2021 is certain be very different compared to the last edition, which took place in 2019. But it will be a warm, nostalgic and atmospheric Christmas market nonetheless, with everything that goes along with it. We are looking forward to sparkling lights, smiling faces and the unforgettable scent of Christmas, which will once again be wafting through the city - a nostalgic melange of piping hot mulled wine, potato pancakes, roast almonds and pine needles.

Sunday: 11:00 am - 9:00 pm

There will be no official opening ceremony this year. The Frankfurt Christmas Market will open on 22 November at 10:00 am!

The Frankfurt Christmas Market 2021 will have a lesser number of stalls spread out over a larger space. The Roßmarkt plaza has been added to the traditiional Christmas market area. The range of offerings will however not be affected by this smaller number of sales booths. Aside from a rich and colourfully diverse selection of foods and beverages, guests will of course also find plenty of stands selling Christmas decoration, candles, arts and crafts, knitwear, leather goods and much, much more.

Covid-19 regulations

As stipulated by the Hessian Covid-19 Protection Ordinance, medical face-masks (FFP2 or surgical masks) must be worn throughout the city centre, including the Christmas market. All catering establishments will have separate eating areas set up outside of the main visitor traffic areas for the consumption of purchased food and drinks. Hot alcoholic beverages such as mulled wine and hot apple wine will only be sold in these consumption areas. Unfortunately, there will be no heated taverns this year. There will also be no stage on the Römerberg and no official opening ceremony in order to avoid particularly large crowds at specific times.
 
This year's Frankfurt Christmas Market is nevertheless meant to be a market for everyone. Therefore, there will be no access restrictions in large parts of the market. Frankfurt locals and visitors from out of town are equally welcome. The so-called "2G rule" (access for fully vaccinated or recovered persons only) is currently envisaged for two smaller, specially marked areas located along the edge of the market. These areas are the Pink Christmas Market of the LGBTQ+ community at Friedrich Stoltze Square and the new Christmas market area at Roßmarkt. For access to these two areas, proof of vaccination or convalescence is required for persons 18 years and older. For persons who for medical reasons cannot be vaccinated, a negative test result is sufficient for gaining access to these areas. Chilidren and youths under the age of 18 also require a negative test result (e.g., school test booklets). Children under six years of age and children who have not yet started school are granted access without proof.

Advent Hymns and Christmas Carols at Liebfrauenkirche (Church of Our Lady)

This year, the choral singing of Christmas carols  will not take place every day as per usual, but only on  weekends leading up to Advent. Location is Frankfurt's Liebfrauenkirche (Church of our Lady) at Liebfrauenberg.

The choral events will be taking place from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm, with admission granted to fully vaccinated or convalesced persons only. Seating is restricted to a maximum of 100 persons in specially marked seats. Medical face-masks may be removed when seats are taken.  Masks must however be worn for the singing of the Advent hymns. You may register online free of charge on the homepage of the Liebfrauenkirche.
