Frankfurt City Museum

Visitors to the Historisches Museum Frankfurt experience Frankfurt as it is and as it used to be. In the exhibitions “Main Panorama”, “Town Model Hall”, “The Staufer Age” and “Bibliothek der Alten” as well as the “Frankfurt Collectors and Donors Museum”, multimedia presentations and interactive installations provide for an eventful visit.

Objects such as the coronation insignia, the Schöner globe of 1515 and the Altarpiece of St Anne are just a few highlights of collections that are among the most extensive on municipal, art and cultural history in the region. Two new museum buildings are presently under construction behind the old structures on the Main. When they reach completion in 2017, they will offer more than 6,000 square metres of additional exhibition space. The shell construction is already standing and gives an impression of the suspenseful contrast that will ensue between the new architecture and the historical buildings lining the Römerberg square. The interior construction will be carried out in the coming months. In addition to the historisches museum, the museum frankfurt family also encompasses the Caricatura Museum, the Kinder Museum and the Porzellan Museum in the Kronberger Haus in Höchst.

The historical museum frankfurt will be under construction until 2017, only some buildings are accessible.
