Seligenstadt – A living history
Narrow streets, colourful half-timbered buildings and impressive monuments show the history of Seligenstadt.
Around 830 Einhard, the biographer of Charlemagne, had built a Carolingian Basilica, still today a famous landmark of Seligenstadt. He also founded a Benedictine monastery with picturesque cloister gardens.
Craft and trade flourished in the Middle Ages. Today we see a lovely historic old town with numerous, carefully restored half-timbered houses, which give the place its very special character.
