Historical Site

The Frankfurt Goethe House, birthplace of Germany´s most famous author and poet, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, was built in the typical 18th-century bourgeois style.

Johann Wolfgang Goethe was born here on August 28, 1749 'at the stroke of twelve bells', and grew up here with his parents Johann Caspar and Catharina Elisabeth, together with his sister Cornelia. With its old furniture and pictures, the 18th-century town house conveys a vivid picture of Goethe's youth. Join the staff on a tour - floor by floor - of Goethe's childhood home. In the exhibition on the 3rd floor you will find a small chronicle about the house and its inhabitants.Adjacent to the Goethe House is the Goethe Museum, a painting gallery of Goethe's time.
